SMART 8
We continue to strengthen SMART to better support our users globally. With the release of SMART 8, users gain access to significant improvements in data capture, management workflows, data quality, and analysis, helping teams work more efficiently, make better use of field data, and strengthen conservation operations at every level.

SMART 8 Features

Polygon and Line Data Collection

Field teams can now capture area and boundary data as part of their observations directly in SMART Mobile. Whether drawing on a map, walking a perimeter with GPS, or using Auto GPS to record points automatically, teams can now document burned areas, fence lines, habitat boundaries, and more with precision.

Real-time Data Processing on Connect

In SMART 8, data uploaded from SMART Mobile is processed directly on the server shortly after it arrives, no manual processing required. Queries and Reports run on Connect will automatically reflect the very latest data, enabling near real-time reporting and faster decision-making for your teams in the field.

Flexible Track-Based Data Collection

As SMART is adopted across a wider range of applications globally, SMART 8 allows organizations to move beyond the traditional "Patrol" concept. Teams can now define custom track types with their own preferred terminology, transport modes, and environments, making SMART adaptable to a much broader range of conservation and monitoring use cases worldwide.

Improved Conservation Area Recovery

A new recovery tool in SMART 8 gives administrators clear, structured options for resolving data conflicts during synchronization. Choose between downloading only recent modifications for speed, or doing a full database replacement for complete accuracy with an option to preserve any locally collected data that hasn't yet been synced to SMART Connect.

Announcements for SMART Mobile Users

Administrators can now push messages directly to field teams through SMART Mobile. Announcements are configured per Conservation Area and appear as notifications on users' devices the next time they open the app, remaining visible until the expiry date or until removed by an administrator.

Additional improvements

SMART 8 includes a range of further enhancements to support SMART users globally. These improvements build on existing workflows and include:

- Create custom tags such as Evidence or ID Card and link them to collected photos and files for easier filtering and reporting
- Patrol queries now show all employees who participated, with full multi-select filtering support
- Summarize data by three-month periods, with start and end quarter options for patrols that cross quarter boundaries
- Define and save custom column configurations for cleaner, more relevant query results
- Control the order in which attributes appear in observation forms in SMART Mobile
- Categorize point-based data collection using custom types, going beyond the single default type of previous versions
- CSV exports can now include a linked attachments folder, with UUIDs added to the export for easy cross-referencing
- A new tab in SMART Connect shows administrators the last sync times and IP addresses for each user, with support for human-readable IP aliases
- Full Connect Administrators can now reset user passwords directly from the interface
- Patrol start and end time columns are now available as columns in Patrol Query results
- Collect specific time values as part of observation data in your data model
- New Tree attribute type for Custom Metadata — Build hierarchical selection trees for custom patrol and track metadata
- WMS service efficiency improvements — Basemap tile requests are now bundled into larger groups to reduce server load, with a configurable tile bundle size in Preferences
